Who's #1

By Robert Littal, Head of BSO

With the draft coming up next month it is time for our
first of many draft reports.  Here are our the top 10
draft prospects enter this years draft:

1- Braylon Edwards (Michigan)

Simply put, the man is a beast on the football field.
If there weren't such a preminum on QBs he would be
the #1 pick in the draft.  The comparisons between him
and David Terrell are laughable. Edwards is bigger,
stronger, faster , and more mature than Terrell and
will make an immediate impact to any team he goes to.
The only negative is that he has lapses in
concentration and will drop some balls from time to
time.

2- Ronnie Brown (Auburn)

Is there anything Brown can't do? He is big and
physical, but also fast and elusive.  He catches the
ball out of the backfield better than some receivers
in this draft.  He can be split out wide and he can
also block a blitzing lineback.  The only reason he is
not well known is because he shared a backfield with
Cadillac Williams at Auburn.  He is the most his
ability to carry a full-time load in the NFL, since he
never was able to in college.

3- Mike Williams (USC)

Williams, who sat out last year, is still considered
by
many to be the best Wide Receiver in the draft.  Watch
the game tape of his last year with USC and you will
see why.  It was like men against boys and he was only
19at the time!  He is a physically imposing presence
who will be good in the red zone.  Like Keyshawn
Johnson, but bigger, faster, and more likely to score
from time to time. He will have a hard time separating
from defensive backs in the NFL, but if he learns to
use his body like Michael Irvin he will be very
dangerous at the next level.

4- Alex Smith (Utah)

The two most important things in being a good
quarterback is being able to read defenses (ie
intelligence) and being accurate.  Smith has these
qualities down to a tee.  I honestly believe he could
start as a rookie and be effective in a West coast
system.  The only negative for him, is that he is on
the slight side, so he will have to get a little more
meat on his bones to handle the pounding he is going
to
take in the NFL.

5- Cadillac Williams (Auburn)

While running mate Ronnie Brown has more upside, the
Cadillac has a lot of horsepower under his engine.
Cadillac is a slasher, who, even though he is small,
always seems to lower the boom when contact is made.
He is good not great out of the backfield, but is an
ultra competitive guy, who will do anything for the
team. Similar to Brown questions arise can he be a
back that carries it 20-25 times a game.

6- Antrel Rolle (The U)

If you want one game to sum up Antrel Rolle, it would
be against Pittsburgh two years ago where he locked
down Larry Fitzgerald and maybe cost him the Heisman
trophy. The thing we like about Rolle is that he is
physical and is a ball hawk, but who isn't from the U?
We think he has the tools to be a #1 corner in the
league.  Questions still remain about his catch up
speed, but we are not concerned.

7- Aaron Rodgers (Cal)

Anytime you complete 24 straights passes against USC,
you deserve to be drafted high.  Another product of
Jeff Tedford fame QB system (see Aklai Smith and Kyle
Boller), we believe Rodgers is the best of that bunch.
He is a little mechanical and does stare down his
receivers from time to time, but he will be a good if
not great QB in the league

8- Pac Man Jones (West Virginia)

The latest cornerback claiming to be the next Deion
Sanders.  Pac Man can fly, he is simply a burner and
has the recovery speed to match up with any receiver
in the NFL sans Randy Moss (remember Randy zooming
pass Deangleo Hall last season?).  Pac Man needs some
work on the fundamentals, but he work as a punt
returner as value to his stock.

9- Cedric Benson (Texas)

There is no question that Benson can carry the load at
the NFL level; he did it for 4 years at Texas. The
question is does have have the elusiveness and top
line speed to be a successful back in the NFL?  We
have our doubts, we could care less about the Ricky
Williams comparisons, but it is our opinion that
Benson will only be a good backup in the NFL.

10- Erasumus James (Wisconsin)

If he can stay healthy he will be a 10-15 sack guy in
the NFL, but that is the deal, he is never healthy.
Pass rushers are at such a premium that he will still
be selected high, but he is definitely a boom or bust
player, so buyer beware.
