I went to UCLA years ago, while the sister of Baron Davis worked in the admissions office. I only dealt with her once, and she was very nice. Baron came later to the school, as a heralded high schooler out of Crossroads High School in Santa Monica (where his classmates had names like Kate Hudson or Cash Warren), and B-D would become of the greatest talents to ever grace the Bruin basketball program.
I've talked to him on numerous occasions, and he's very humble, and realizes basketball isn't the be-all-or-end-all for his life. Davis has become much more than just a basketball player. He is a lobbyist (as he is in Washington, DC at this moment...follow him on twitter), music connoisseur, movie critic, and movie producer.

In January, a film he produced, Crips and Bloods: Made in America, a film about how the two well-known gangs began and grew to be fierce rivals in the LA area, was introduced to the Sundance Film Festival, and received several accolades, including several 'Official Selection' awards at six different film festivals.
Stacy Peralta, the same man who directed Dogtown, wrote and put his stamp on this film, with the help of narration from Forest Whitaker. Variety believes this film is very powerful, and provides a look inside the gangs and violence that plagues the area people have never seen before. Go get the film, which is on DVD at your local stores (well, most of them).

I have to check this out. I love films that detail history, no matter the subject matter.
Never met him in person but caught wind of this back in January and posted about it here on BSO. Seems very riveting and a good story. Not to mentioned its narrated by one of the best actors in Hollywood
