Sacramento Kings Fans - Where Have You Gone?

In the early 2000s, the Los Angeles Lakers were dominating, and went en route to winning three straight championships. There was, however, one team that always gave them a lot of trouble. It was that Sacramento Kings team led by Chris Webber and Vlade Divac (Yes, Vlade Divac). As an avid Laker fan, I dreaded the games against the Kings during the regular season, and even worse in the playoffs. They always were just a tough guard. Chris Webber was simply too good and too quick for anybody on the Lakers.

Luckily for me and my Lakers, one player rarely can beat a team on his own, especially when that one player ends up losing a knee in the process. And it didn't help the Kings much that Peja Stojakovic forgot that the game of basketball is four quarters (Note: He still hasn't gotten the memo). Regardless, those Lakers-Kings series gave all of us NBA fans great games, and us Laker fans some memorable highlights. Kings fans on the other hand...I truly do apologize. Watching the Lakers-Kings game tonight, I couldn't help but think of how good games were between these two franchises at a time that now seems like many, many years ago.

But now...things have changed, and as much as I am a die-hard Laker fan, I'm a little bit disgusted.

Why is the ovation for the starting line-up for the Lakers louder than the starting line-up for the Kings?

Ok, there's a lot of Kobe fans out there, that's fine. I can accept that. It's Kobe.

But when one of the loudest cheers comes when DJ Mbenga, the Lakers tenth man scores, or when Adam Morrison, the one Laker who barely gets any run...gets cheers for finally entering the court...No. That's only supposed to happen in Los Angeles! That's only supposed to happen at home.

Sacramento, you need to stop. You need to stick by your team.

The finest stars have fans everywhere. Everywhere you go these days, you'll see the Kobe jerseys, the Lebron jerseys, the Wade jerseys, and hey I'll admit it, you'll see Boston jerseys too. Those are the teams and players everybody loves. Great. Buy a jersey.

But Sacramento? You're supposed to hate us. We're supposed to hate you. In LA, we don't sell Kings shirts, we sell Sacramento Queens shirts.

Ok, ok, ok. The teams are completely different now. The Lakers are completely different, and the Kings, well...the only remnant of that Kings legacy are the Maloof Brothers. But when two players gets into a fight on the court, like Rick Fox and Doug Christie, and both land their punches (or Rick's baby slap) respectively...and one player proceeds to run around the whole stadium after being ejected to land more punches by his locker room...you aren't supposed to cheer for us!

Rick Fox v.s. Doug Christie

It got worse, when Sasha Vujacic dunked over two Kings players to end the game tonight, and not only did the Lakers bench go crazy, but the whole stadium did. It's one thing to stand up and applaud a tomahawk dunk by Lebron James. You simply respect it. But to cheer and celebrate as if the Lakers have won a Championship - it was that loud - I don't know if I can take that as some sort of prize.

Playing up in Sacramento meant that I had to hear these obnoxious cowbells for 48 minutes, and see my team not only play the Kings, but also play against a raucous crowd.

It's no longer like that. And it's terribly unfortunate, because I still have my Queens shirt. And I still wear it proudly.

What can a fan do, when the home team has nearly as many victories as the road team does, losses. I guess there's no real solution, other than re-building a franchise to be a contender again...but until then, can you stick by your team and support them?

Or at least, next time, bring some cow bells...for my own nostalgic memories.

It was over for them as soon as Horry hit that 3

The Kings are, and always have been, the Lakers step-child to beat the hell out of...and they always will be.

Excuse me. Ordinarily he was insane, but he had lucid moments when he was merely stupid.
