What's Next for Stephen Curry?

I'll say it right now. Few will be confused; most will disagree. But I'll say it anyway...Stephen Curry's career thus far in college basketball has put him in the category as possibly one of the most dynamic and difficult players to guard in college basketball that we have seen in the past ten years. He is easily one of the best shooters in the past ten years of college basketball, more so than people like J.J. Redick, Adam Morrison, Ben Gordon, and so many other notable players with ridiculous range. Curry's only setback was the university he played ball at...Davidson.

No disrespect to Davidson; it's a great school, and Curry has given them a small light of relevance, but if this sharp shooter was on a Duke squad or a Oklahoma team...they would be automatic favorites to win the tournament.

Regardless, now comes the question for this star point guard? Is he ready for the NBA?

Ahh...he just might be.

This year, Curry led his team to a 27-8 record while averaging 28.7 points a game and 5.7 assists a game. Practically every game this year, he put on some sort of show, including four 40-point games. True, Davidson doesn't play in a division with a lot of big school teams, but nonetheless Curry's season has been truly magical. Leading his team to such a good record with the team he has, was not an easy task.

Just one look at their roster, you can see that they have no true center on the roster. No player is taller than 6'9!

He took his team to heights that Davidson didn't even dream of. And yes, more of it was by scoring, but Stephen Curry did many tangibles for his team that have made this team as strong as they were as a unit.

Through the first five games of the season, Curry was averaging 35 points a game, including a 44-point-attack in a loss to Blake Griffin's Oklahoma. On November 25, 2008, Curry's sixth game, Loyola had a whole new gameplan for Curry. Realizing Curry's unstoppable offense, the Greyhounds ran a triangle and two defense, as two defenders stayed on Curry the entire game. Curry saw this, and rather than forcing anything, he simply adjusted and worked around it.

Curry was held scoreless that game, his only scoreless game in his career, shooting 0/3. The Davidson Wildcats won by 30.

When asked about his defensive scheme, Loyola coach Jimmy Patsos only had one thing to say about Curry. "We had to play against an NBA player tonight," Patsos explained. "Anybody else ever hold him scoreless?"

Clearly, Curry is doing something right. And while that was only the beginning of the season, Curry carried last year's clutch play in the tournament into this year. Curry gained national recognition when he forced Davidson to get noticed as they pulled upset victories against top ten teams, Georgetown and Wisconsin. Scoring every which way, Curry has only gotten better this year, looking like a stronger and smarter passing point guard, as well as playing a high level of defense.

"If Oklahoma can't stop him, how is Loyola College going to stop him?" Patsos asked.

Is Curry going to go number one in the NBA Draft? Probably not. While this year's draft will be weaker than the past few drafts, there are still centers and forwards coming out this year that will most likely get the nod for the top three picks. But if the right team gets the right bounce, could Curry go top five? Quite possibly. The six-feet, three inches skinny guard just might be NBA ready, even with his small frame. One thing is for sure, he's got NBA range, and he played brilliant ball on every end of the court this year to prove that he's not just a shooter.

Curry's draft stock might have been higher last year, after such a dominating performance in the tournament. And after being snubbed this year, we don't get the pleasure of seeing Curry in the national spotlight once more. But if you saw his possible finale on Monday night in a loss against St. Mary's, you can see that Curry is something else.

"He's special. You're looking at a guy that's one of the best guys out there. That's certainly one of the best performances I've ever seen," Oklahoma coach Jeff Capel said of Curry after barely getting past Davidson and Curry's 44 points early on in the season.

He does, however, have the luxury of not being forced to leave school, go pro to make money to support his family. Luckily, he's a Dell Curry hybrid, a sharp shooter in the NBA for a long time.

And just a quick refresh:

At the end of the day, Curry is NBA ready. And many people think that he'll still enter the draft. Even after being snubbed for the tournament, it's unlikely that Curry and Davidson will be any better next year. They aren't the UCLA's, UNC's and UCONN's with the good recruiting year after year. And with that said, Curry could very well be one of the best point guards in the draft.

I already believe that he was easily the most entertaining player to watch this year in college basketball. And that he's one of the best we've seen in a long time, simple because he is able to do nearly anything with his game.

See for yourself:

The season may be over for Curry this year, but the hype on Curry is only just beginning. And trust me, I don't think he will disappoint.

But in the meantime, while we wait for more Curry news...take his pops' advice, and learn how to shoot a jumpshot.

He needs to come out now because the longer he stays the worse his draft stock will fall

He is Steve Kerr in the league that is it.

I'd have to agree. The kid is definitely ready. He has the shot of an NBA player and has shown he can be a capable point guard when needed. He'll be a bit of a combo guard in the NBA but he'll definitely be there.

He is better than Jammerr Nelson

If they let Curry slip in the draft to late in the first round, it will comeback to haunt almost every team that passes on him. When D wade came out a lot of my friends thought I was crazy for thinking he should have went number two. Now they can't look me in the face when I mention his name. Stephen Curry is that kind of player. Yes he is a all around good player. But that's not why he will be a premiere player. He will be a premiere player because is is heartless on the court. He reminds me of Reggie Miller. He has ice in his veins and loves doubters, they fuel him. If they let him get paired with a good center and a decent forward, it is a wrap.

I see someone said that all Curry will be in the league is Steve Kerr. Even if that is true, a team gets its money's worth. Kerr is one of the greatest shooters in the history of basketball. He hit big shots for championship teams. I cannot wait to see Curry in the league.

I don't think it's a matter of Stephen Curry's being ready. He IS ready to play in my opinion; it's a matter of whether he goes to the right team.

I don't think Curry will ever be a true point guard. His basketball IQ is very high and he passes really well, but you can tell that his instinct is for scoring, especially off the catch-and-shoot. I don't think that'll change much, so he has to be paired up with a big point guard/point forward in the 6-5 to 6-8 range, and those types of players are rare.

Some scenarios I can see happening to Curry are that he slips in the draft and ends up going to a contender.

He would be a good fit on the Cavs. Mo Williams will be the starting point guard, but when he goes to the bench, LeBron can run the offense and Curry and Gibson could be the deadeye shooters and provide a scrappy front two in a zone defense.
