On Monday the 16th one of the main headlines on ESPN.com was:
The most important word in that sentence is "Voluntary", but if you read the story and watched the various ESPN talking heads (Mort, Clayton, NFL Live and etc) you would have thought T.O. had skipped out on the first game of the season.
It wasn't a big deal. The Bills didn't think it was a big deal. Terrell Owens is one of the best conditioned athletes not just in the NFL but in the world. Missing a "voluntary" condition workout is not going to hurt him.
I believe most people realized it was a non-story even while some in the media were trying to make it into a bigger story than it was. I decided not to even write about because it was a waste of time and didn't want to give the story any legs, but this information was passed on to me.
It appears the reason that T.O. didn't make it to the "voluntary" workout because he was receiving an award. Of course this was buried on page 97 of ESPN.com with no accompanying videos from any talking heads. You might be asking what the award that Owens' received was. Just read for yourself.
T.O. to be honored by Alzheimer's group
The star receiver is in Washington, D.C., attending the sixth annual National Alzheimer's Gala. On Wednesday night, he'll receive the Alzheimer's Association's first Young Champions Award for raising awareness in the fight against the disease. Owens' grandmother, Alice Black, has Alzheimer's.
Among the others being honored will be French president Nicolas Sarkozy, Democratic Sen. Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia and his wife, Sharon Percy Rockefeller.
Bills WR Terrell Owens meets the media for the first time after being introduced in Buffalo.
"Alzheimer's is the seventh-leading cause of death in the United States," Owens said in a statement. "Alzheimer's has affected my own family, so I understand firsthand the impact of this disease. I am proud to support the Alzheimer's Association as they educate people on the realities of Alzheimer's disease so we can inspire enough support to stop it."
Owens, who signed with the Bills on March 7, made headlines Monday when he was one of several players who didn't show up for the start of the team's 12-week voluntary workout program.
According to a news release from the Buffalo Bills, Owens' work as an advocate has included testifying before Senate subcommittees to increase research funding and serving as a spokesman for the Alzheimer's Association Champion awareness campaign.
Once again if you don't know by now you will never know, but don't let the media manipulate you. Pay attention to what you are reading and determine is it "TMZ" worthy or is it "News" worthy. Instead of focusing on the negative if they would have done a little research they would have know that Owens' was away for a very good cause and even if he was just sitting at home watching TV it was still a non-story that wasn't worth all of the fuss.
If you thought it was going to be different with T.O. in Buffalo you are wrong the media is already plotting his downfall. Hopefully you are smarter than to fall for it again.

Thanks to ignorant people like Peggy that have never met T.O., there will always be an audience for BSPN's biased reporting. It should be obvious to everyone that the media can make or break a person, but we still continue to fall for it. Even players in the NFL who have never been in the same locker room as T.O. subscribe to the BS.
I'm not going to give T.O. a pass because he's caused a lot of trouble himself. But at least he leaves it on the field. You'll NEVER hear about this man getting arrested (Pacman), doing drugs (Matt Jones/Brett Favre), or 'alledgedly' killing someone (Ray Lewis). One day people will find out how slanted things were against T.O.
Luckily at least for this story a lot of fans are understanding what ESPN was up to.
You are absolutely right in this instance about Terrell Owens. ESPN tried to make a story where there was none.... in this instance.
