is Danica Patrick. I'm saying this because it's obvious at this point that she's going to make a lot more money from photo shoots than she will from driving. She's had some success on the racetrack but most of her publicity has been for racy commercials for GoDaddy.com and various photo spreads she's done for different magazines. Now this really isn't news, but it went into overdrive the past few weeks. She was featured in another GoDaddy commercial where a couple of computer geek guys were fantasizing about her showering, and then came the SI swimsuit issue. Now a lot of female athletes do the SI issue, but unless I'm wrong she's the only one to do a full spread more than once. Now that's all well and good, but it's time to tell the truth about what she's become: the new Anna Kournikova.
What I mean is that she's had some early success, like Ann K. did, and isn't a bad driver at all (Anna was ranked 12th in the world in tennis at one point, so it's not like she was awful) but for all the hype about how she was going to change the face of Formula One racing and all, there's been little in the way of real results. There are other racers who've had shorter careers and won more races. And it seems that, like with Kournikova, she hasn't met a camera she won't pose for. And while I have no beef with that per se, it's time we all stopped pretending where the real interest in her comes from. It isn't a love of car racing, that's for sure. Wherever she falls on your own personal hotness scale, I can guarantee it's higher than whatever grade you'd give her for athletic accomplishments.
Now is that such a bad thing? I don't know. Sexing it up a little (or a lot) hasn't proven to be a real box office winner for any of the women's sports that have tried it. The WNBA has tried to highlight it's more head turning players to no avail; the LPGA was issued a directive by it's president for the ladies to accentuate their attractiveness, and it hasn't really affected things much. And who really watches more racing because of Patrick or any of the other good looking ladies who ply their trade there while appearing in all the men's magazines? Women's tennis has had some success with it, but that's largely because Venus and Serena Williams were as compelling for being highly successful African Americans in a mostly white sport, as they are for how they fill out tennis outfits and other clothing. It's lucrative for the individuals, without a doubt, but not for their employers. But regardless of all that, back to my original point. She's a model who races cars, and not the other way around. Just calling it as I see it.

I wasn't making any argument one way or the other on that (I happen to agree with you). I'm just saying that they're pretty much having the same career in different sports, that's all.
