I often talk about becoming a legend. You don't become a legend by being a front runner. You don't become a legend by just managing the game. You don't become a legend running from the spotlight. For many years I have been a critic of Ben Roethlisberger. Even when he won a Super Bowl the Steelers won in spite of him.
This was the game I felt that Roethlisberger could possibly make his legendary mark, but when Larry Fitzgerald ran free through the Steelers secondary to make the score 23-20 with a little over two minutes to go I wondered.
I wondered if Big Ben was up to have his "Montana Moment"?
Then he orchestrated a drive that turns you from just a regular Quarterback into a legendary one. Ben Roethlisberger has my respect and with two Super Bowl rings he should have silenced any leftover critics out there.
While Big Ben deserves a lot of credit how about Santonio Holmes? Everyone was talking about Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin but it was Holmes that stole the show and eventually the MVP. It is one thing to just make catches, but Holmes made clutch catches including the biggest catch of Super Bowl 43. As a former Wide Receiver myself you dream about catching the winning pass in the Super Bowl. Just a thing of beauty and for the second year in a row an improbable catch will define a Super Bowl.
By the way Santonio is a proud alum of The Ohio State University (I know my school produces ballers).
While Holmes catch will be the last thing you remember about Super Bowl 43 the play that changed the game was James Harrison's 100 yard interception return for a touchdown at end the half. If Arizona scores that touchdown who knows what happens, but Harrison who is known for blitzing the quarterback showed why the Pittsburgh defense is so good. Dropping back into a zone when everyone included Kurt Warner expected him to blitz. The run back is even more amazing than the interception. What could have been 14-10 Arizona ended up being 17-7 Pittsburgh and changed the momentum in the game.
What can I say about the Arizona Cardinals? The best way I can sum up what a great game this was by the Cardinals is this. They get kicked in the teeth on the end of the half interception TD from Harrison. They come out in the 3rd quarter and it appears the refs have decided they want the Steelers to win the game. The Steelers line up for a field goal but the Cardinals are called for a very iffy personal call. Now the "old" Cardinals I know would fold up their tent and let the Steelers score go up 24-7 game over right? But not these Cardinals they held their ground and forced the Steelers to kick a field goal.
That sums up the "New" Arizona Cardinals both mentally and physically tough.
I mentioned in my "5 Reasons" video that Kurt Warner would have to play out of his mind for the Cardinals to have a chance and he played even better than I could ever imagine. He made one bad throw all game (a really bad one), but beyond that he played like 27 year old Kurt Warner. The Cardinals would be fools to let him hit free agency.
How good is Larry Fitzgerald? The Steelers whole defense was structure around stopping him and he still almost won the game for the Cardinals. He broke every post season receiving record in the books and deserves the title of best receiver in the game.
Hell of game. That is all I can say I am already excited for next year.

I really enjoy reading Super Bowl 43 the remix. I,too, am a graduate of a Big Ten university (Michigan State University). While I didn't attend OSU, I am a buckeye as well as big ten fan. Nothing made me more proud than to see a brother from the Big Ten do the damn thang.
Yesterday, Big Ben truly had a defining moment, but he shined brightest when he gave much love to his offensive line. I firmly believe that the game of football starts at the line, yet when you search the files of the NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame, you see wide receivers, running backs, and quarterbacks mostly.
I have been a Steeler fan all of my life. Nothing gave me more joy than to see them win that game. Thanks for helping me relive that moment Robert. It was greatly appreciated.

Well you were right Rob. You said it would all come down to defense and it did. There were huge offensive plays from both teams. But the Harrison's pick and taking it back to the house was the game changer. But the crazy thing that Harrison's interception happened too early in the game allowing the Cardinals time to recover. And the Cardinals offense did recover but the defense just wasnt good enough. If the Cards in the 2nd half would have gotten just one more turnover via and interception, fumble recovery or turnover on downs then i think we would have seen a different outcome.
