Here on BSO, we have the liberty to report and give our opinion on things sports-related. We arent bound in a manner to where the CEO controls us like puppets, and for that I am grateful.
The same liberty allows us to provide thought provoking commentary about how sports is just an accessory to life, along with the trials and tribulations that come with it. Many commentators don't care, but some of the people that I look up to in the industry, your Stuart Scott's, Michael Wilbon's, etc, care enough to go beyond the field of play into the stadium of life. They draw the correlation between the freak of nature athlete, and the person within.
First things first, I am praying for you Eddy Curry. My opinion of you as a basketball player aside, you are dealing with a lot right now. Keep your head to the sky.
We as fans often times forget that these athletes feel emotional hurt and cry tears just as we do. Its hard to remember that these people are humans that deal with the same situations we do, but receive the publicity associated with being a celebrity.
Late last week, Eddy Curry's world was rocked as he learned about the violent murder of his ex-girlfriend and her nine-month old daughter. This same ex-girlfriend is the mother of Curry's son,Noah, who happen to be at the scene when the incident happened. Noah Curry was unharmed.
While police are still looking for the suspect, who they believe to be Nova Henry's ex-boyfriend, details have emerged that makes the situation a bit more personal for Curry: A paternity document has surfaced that names Curry as the father of the slain infant.
Two lives lost, many affected, all for what? Exactly.
I don't know what exactly is going in the world today, but it is getting ridiculous. News like this isnt surprising to Chicago, due its increase in violence recently, and the highly publicized deaths in Jennifer Hudson's family. The Eddy Curry situation is not more important than the other lives that have been ended due to senseless violence there, but for those who think athletes are immune to tragedy, this serves as an example that violence doesnt discriminate.
Eddy Curry, along with your family, friends, the victim's family, and everyone close to the situation, please be encouraged. Let their memory serve as a catalyst for strength during this time of sorry.
