Quick Hits - Robert Littal Presents The Infamous BlackSportsOnline

For the weekend.....

NFL Playoff Picks:

My choices went 2-2 last week (I picked all four road teams). This week is the usually the one where road teams go to die; will that hold up this year? I say yes. Carolina beats Arizona (the Panthers have too much offense and more than enough defense for the Cardinals), New York beats Philly (Giants get the lead, don't turn the ball over, and the Eagles are forced to throw it 45 times to their crappy receivers), the Titans beat the Ravens (count me among the believers that the less beat up Titans have more in the tank and persevere in what is likely to be a brutal game). Can the Chargers beat the notorious home field choking Steelers in Pittsburgh? I say no. Daren Sproles will no go crazy on the Steeler defense the way he did last week. Remember that even with his huge day it the Chargers won in overtime. With him get pounded by Harrison, Woodley, and co., a 300-plus yard day isn't happening. The Chargers were 8-8 for reason, and we'll see it this weekend.

The BCS is like a really attractive person a bad personality

Follow my logic here people. We hate the attitude. They're stuck up, full of themselves, manipulative, etc. We swear up and down that we got nothing for them because of just how awful/mean/whhatever they are. And then, they give us a smile and a sweet, charmingly voiced compliment, and we're all theirs. Again. That's the BCS. Every year, we get a mid major school shut out of the title game despite an unbeaten record, or a deserving big time school like USC gets shut out because they lost one game in conference on the road, or a poser like last year's Ohio State team (don't kill me boss!) gets in because they fooled some voters along the way. And we swear that we're done with it until they get a playoff. Then the game comes on, and what do we do? We watch it! The audience was up 9% from last year, which means that more of us watched this year. So do you really think we'll actually get a playoff when we keep punking out like this? Hey, I'm guilty too. I fell for the big butt and the smile on Thursday like everybody else.

The Portland Trailblazer brass tried to get over with the Darius Miles deal

Basically, they overpaid for a guy, and tried to get out of it sideways. They could have agreed to some kind of buyout last year, and taken the cap hit when they're weren't looking to contend anyway. Instead they pushed him to retire so they could get free from him without having to take the hit. But Miles is apparently ready to play again, and now they might get busted for it. And they want the rest of the league to help them out of their jam by not signing the dude. They may luck out because Miles isn't good enough as a player to go out of your way to sign anyway, but their are stupid GMs out there who will gamble on a seven footer no matter how mediocre he may be. But again,GMs act stupid and then look for a help out. It never ends. Don't be surprised if Miles goes unsigned; he's not just not a good enough player. But if he does, Blazer fans should get mad at the Portland front office that signed him in the first place.
