Eddie Rios is a guard for the University of Miami's basketball team. Just so we are clear, I dont follow UM bbal, but I feel the same way about the Hurricanes on the football field as Littal does his beloved Buckeyes...who owe us one, but hey, I hold no grudges
Apparently being an athlete at one of the best universities in the nation isnt enough for Fast Eddie. Here is the report coming from the Associated Press
CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Suspended Miami basketball guard Eddie Rios was arrested and jailed Wednesday on charges of burglary and grand theft, Miami-Dade County jail officials said.
Rios was booked Wednesday at 5:51 a.m. on two counts of burglarizing an unoccupied dwelling, and two counts of grand theft, according to the county's corrections department Web site.
It could not be immediately determined if Rios has an attorney.
He was suspended by the Hurricanes on Jan. 12 for "violating team rules relating to following team protocol and lack of communication with coaches," the university said. That suspension was not related to the charges filed Wednesday.
"We are aware of the situation," team spokeswoman Margaret Belch told The Associated Press, declining further comment.
Rios was released later in the day after posting bond, which was listed on the online records as $12,500 for the burglary counts and $5,000 apiece for the theft charges.
Jail officials said Wednesday evening they had no other information other than what was on the Web site, including which police agency in South Florida actually charged Rios.
It has been a tumultuous season for Rios. He was also suspended briefly in December, then reinstated after two days.
Rios averaged 4.7 points and 12.3 minutes, starting four games this year for Miami.
Now, he isnt a superstar or anything, but I had to give him some shine because of this simple fact: Did we ever think we would see a Miami Hurricane basketball player make the headlines in this manner?
Maybe he realized those 4 points weren't going to get him to the NBA so he decided to go the ski mask way.
