While recent news has been plagued with a plethora of dumb ass athletes and legal woes such as Michael Vick, Chris Henry, Larry Johnson, Adam "Pacman" Jones and now Plaxico Burress, the year would not be complete without revisiting the grandfather of all idiots, O. J. Simpson.
Stupid is as stupid does after all. That lesson finally seemed to have sunk in as a solemn O.J. Simpson faced the music after having the proverbial "book thrown at him" yesterday, to the tune of a maximum of 33 years in prison for 10 convictions , some of which include: (1 count, 1 year in County) conspiracy to commit a crime, (1 count,12-24 months concurrent) conspiracy to commit kidnapping, (1 count 12-24 months) conspiracy to commit robbery, (1 count, 12-26 months) burglary with a deadly weapon, (1 count, 12-72 concurrent) 1st degree kidnapping, (12-72 concurrent w/enhancement due to the weapon), (1 count, 18-72 months consecutive) assault with a deadly weapon. Simpson is eligible for parole after having served up to 9 years. After a five minute speech about as tear jerking as a presidential debate between George W. Bush and John Kerry, Las Vegas circuit court judge, Jackie Glass delivered a brass knuckle blow in response to Simpson's role in the September 2007 robbery of two dealers in a Las Vegas hotel room, where Simpson along with five companions raided the room allegedly attempting to retrieve the 61 year old Hall of Famer's stolen sports memorabilia and mementos.
"This is the first time that I had the chance to catch the guys red-handed that had been stealing from my family. I knew these guys, I did think Mike Gilbert would be there...but I have no hatred to Mike Gilbert. In the past as we know, Mike Gilbert tried to set me up in a porn video, trip me into a room with hidden cameras and they still wrote in the news and tabloids that O.J. did it... I forgave Mike. .. I forgave Bruce...we've apologized to each other. I didn't ask anyone to do anything but stand behind me so I can yell at these guys and to retrieve my stuff . Unfortunately they did...and I believe it was my fault that they were there...I didn't want to hurt anybody. I talked to police... showed them what was taken. I didn't want to steal anything from anybody, I didn't want anybody else's stuff, just my own. I thought I was confronting my friends and retrieving my property... I'm sorry..."
Unfortunately for O.J. his bumbling plea for mercy fell on deaf ears.
"It's kind of a fine line in what you said to me. I hear what you said and what Mr. Galanter said in which is," I didn't intend to do anything wrong so I must not have done something wrong, since there was no intent it was just all stupidity." It was much more than stupidity. I have to tell you know... it really doesn't matter..." Glass said, unsympathetically.
"You went to the room... you took guns, you used force. You took property, whether it was yours or somebody else's, in this state that amounts to robbery with a deadly weapon, whether it's you having the gun, Mr. McClinton having the gun or Mr. Alexander having the gun. " Glass said. "...I'm not here to try and cause any retribution or any payback for anything else. I want that to be perfectly clear to anyone. Guns were brought, at least one gun was drawn. Potential for harm was tremendous..."
Despite Glass' assurance that this verdict had nothing to do with dishing out payback a déjà vu fell over the crowd at the notion of Simpson finally receiving justice for his 1995 acquittal in the brutal slayings of his ex wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend, Ron Goldman. Not too surprisingly, the late Mrs. Simpson's father and sister, Fred and Kim Goldman were among the believers of Simpson's bad cosmic karma coming back to bite him.
"We're thrilled. It's a bittersweet moment ... Knowing that that SOB is gonna be in jail for a very long time." Fred commented to the press. " He'll never change, and he's going to stay in jail for a very long time. There is never closure. Ron is always gone."
According to Simpson's defense attorney, Yale Galanter, he is simply a martyr in the midst of bigots (Simpson was convicted by an all white jury during his October trial) bent on exacting revenge on the former Bills star running back who suffers from stupidity not criminal intent despite the potential danger his actions posed. It seems the jig is up on O.J.'s projected "innocence" in the name of stupidity. The once beloved All-American athlete of the 70's actions from his involvement in his ex-wife brutal murder to his foiled book deal skirting the issue if he DID kill his wife to his botched up robbery and kidnapping attempt hint at otherwise--a lack of needing to be held accountable. Even with the four other men involved pleading guilty and co defendant, Clarence "CJ" Stewart being handed down a 7 ½ - 27 year sentence---O.J. still doesn't get it. The handful of a dozen protestors toting signs like " Free O.J., You Black Man Haters" are a testament to that.
Maybe stupid is as stupid does. And maybe I'm just a monkey's uncle

Looks like you and Littal disagree on some things, but agree like the rest of us that OJ is a fool
OJ got beat like Oscar..lmao
Well I'm my own person. Rob respects my perspective and agrees with me on a few things and I respect his but at the end of the day OJ is an idiot. I told Rob yesterday, he's like George Bush in many ways. Ignorant yet arrogant with no sense of accountability. Everything is one big mistake after another big mistake that the rest of us should just continue to put up with while countless people are affected. I use to believe in OJ being persecuted but the strangest thing happened...I grew up. Like a writer said over at ESPN. We have a biracial president now, the race card being shamelessly pulled as an excuse for a black man in a position of power whether in sports, politics, entertainment, you name it...just DOESN'T cut it anymore!
This situation with O.J. Simpson is just out of control....The man had a great football career in college with the University of Southern California and at the next level with the Buffalo Bills....The things that O.J. have done does not make any sense at all....He set himself up big time when he wrote that book...He should have just left well alone and just disappeared...O.J. Simpson is a disgrace to society and to his famuly as well...Being ignorant is not good at all....O.J. has sense but he does not have any common sense...Maybe jail will bring him back to having common sense..
