Can the Titans actually win it all?

That really is a question that needs to be asked now that they're 5-0. They have the defense, the running game, and a veteran quarterback who knows how to lead a team to a Super Bowl in Kerry Collins. So are their chances realistic, or is this a mirage that will soon fade, revealing a 7-9 reality check? And if they do make it to the playoffs, what is their likely fate? Let's look at some their factors that will determine their fate:

The schedule. It definitely isn't easy, but it's not impossible. They've got three easy games against Kansas City, Detroit, and Cleveland, and another tough but winnable one against Houston but other than that it's going to be a long season . Two games against the Colts, a rematch with Jacksonville, home games against Green Bay, Pittsburgh, and the Jets, and a road game against the Bears. Yikes. They won't lose all of those, obviously, but they'll be fortunate to come out those seven games with four or five wins. All in all, 10-6 or 11-5 looks feasible at this point; they're already halfway there.so when you combine their lousy opponents with a few wins over the better ones they should be fine.

The receivers. The Titans seem to shop for receivers at the same store as the Jaguars, Dolphins, and Eagles. They have a collection of guys who turn in the occasional big play but aren't able to consistently get the better of any secondary. Their leading receiver is a tight end, and no wideout has crossed the 100 yard barrier this year. There are plenty of times where the game progresses in such a way that it doesn't matter, but sooner or later they're going to need some consistent 15 to 20 yards plays from that position if they want to go any further than the wildcard round.

The quarterback 'situation' Kerry Collins is doing fine now, but will it last? He isn't a high percentage passer, and doesn't look like he's going to be able to do well against the better defensive teams in the league. Collins main strengths are his veteran leadership and the ability to make the few big throws that are needed to pull out a defensive struggle like their week 5 win over Baltimore. It has yet to be seen if he'll be able to make it happen in an offensive shootout where the Titans will need to score a lot of points. As great as their defense is playing, they won't be able to hold everybody to 17 points or less. Somebody will light them up eventually, and the Titan offense will have to be able to keep up. Collins may or may not be the guy for that.

Everyone else. As it stands right now, the playoffs look to be pretty much up for grabs among the entire AFC. Only Cleveland, Cincinnati, Oakland, and Kansas City look to be out of it totally right now, while Houston is hanging on by a real thin thread right now. That leaves 10 teams vying for 6 spots, all with significant questions marks. Even the usual sure bets in Indy and New England are struggling and can't be handed berths on GP like in previous years. The Titans get to play five games against the teams they'll be competing with, but they get no chance to knock down New England, San Diego, Denver, Miami, or Buffalo. So they're going to have to rely on some other teams to grease the skids alittel for them.

nope

The Titans rely upon their defense/running game to pummel the opposition.

They have also benefitted from the lackluster performance of their fellow division members. The Colts and Jags have struggled and the Texans, are, the Texans.

Barring a collapse, the Titans have what it takes to win the division and if they can secure home-field, they will be a tough team to deal with in the playoffs.

Can the Titans actually win it all?

no.
