Is Bud Selig picking a winner?

MLB Commisioner Bud Selig once again made a mockery of Baseball with his horrible decision making. This time it's at the expense of the pride and joy of the game: The World Series. Regardless of what happens from here on out in this Fall Classic between the Phillies and the Rays, he has compromised the integrity of the 2008 World Series.

Game 5 of the World Series was suspended due to inclimate weather last night. My question is simply, why was the game started in the first place? It seems like to me Fox is calling the shots entirely. Another night of baseball, another successful night of TV ratings. I don't know what forecaster Selig was listening to but every weather channel in the Philly area seemed to know it was going to rain. Why doesn't Bud Selig know this?

Ok so your playing a game you shouldn't be playing even when it was apparent that the conditions weren't fit to play ball, the game continued to go on. This can only end ugly folks. Rays pitcher Scott Kazmir couldn't get the mud from the mound off of his cleets. Anytime a Gold Glove shortstop like Jimmy Rollins can't field a routine pop-fly you'd think Selig would know it's time to stop the game. Unable to grip the ball, Cole Hamels devestating changeup became a non-factor. For god's sake this is the World Series you'd think, but Selig continued to embarass his players and do a disservice to all the fans who came to see professional baseball players play in the World Series.

My problem is not with the fact the game was stopped or him making rules up on the fly. Besides, the Philly fans don't want a World Series win to be tainted by it being rained out. That's not fair for either team. My problem is with Selig allowing the game to continue as long as it did and starting the 6th inning when the weather was ridiculous. Now lets think, if in fact you say that you weren't going to end the World Series short of 9 inning being played, then why do you even start the 6th inning? It's not fair to have Hamels wait and wait... and wait, then decide to send the Phillies back out there to try and pitch and field in that weather. The Rays shouldn't have to hit in that weather either. There's no way you can start the 6th inning and then after the Rays score and tie it up, all of a sudden realize that you shouldn't be playing! If it feels like a farce, it's because it is!

It's a unfair advantage to the Rays that they will not have to pitch and field in those conditions when they resume in the bottom of the 6th. What's good for one team should be good for the next. The Phillies had to be incensed that the Rays scored when the game should obviously been stopped. Since Selig wasn't smart enough to know not to send the players out there in the 6 inning, you'd think to be fair he'd know to play the entire inning. It's not like the weather changed from the top of the 6th to the bottom of the 6th. It seems the more he talked last night the more you realized that he's a couple fries away from a Happy Meal.

Mr. Selig continued to insult our intelligence by saying the score never mattered. An obvious lie. The score mattered because the rule book says if the game is 5 innings complete and called due to rain the team leading wins the game. The million dollar question to Bud would have then been: "why aren't you following the rules?" or "How can you change the rules on the fly, the Phils should be champs". Furthermore if he stopped the game at 2 - 1 in that situation and pulled this rule out of his ass and Philly ended up losing the World Series, he'd be crucified.

The Rays scoring that last run to tie the game was a gift from god to Bud Selig. Even though he cost the Phils their ace who probably had a couple more innings in him, he now doesn't have to face that you literally stole a championship from Philly non-sense that he would have heard everywhere. He only has to hear about the unfair advantage he gave the Rays by these stupid decisions on the World Stage.

When the MLWS will continue? No one knows. Hopefully Selig will just wait until there's good weather like a responsible Commisioner would do. The game itself should be bigger and mean more than ratings for Fox television.
