According to various news reports, the hotheaded tight end and Giants general manager Jerry Reese got into a "huge shouting match" during the three-day camp that ended on Friday.

Most will agree that Shockey is a head case who can behave badly to the point of distraction and destructiveness. However, Shockey is also an elite player who can only make the Giants' offense better when he is at full strength and when his head is in the right place.

The Giants felt that Shockey was a player they need/needed to make their offense better when questions about whether to move him in the off-season, because they undoubtedly would have cut their ties with him had they otherwise. A second-round pick plus a player is a decent enough offer (which the New Orleans Saints were willing to make leading up to the NFL draft) to part ways with a malcontent. I just don't think they can get that now.
