ROB, PLEASE MAKE THIS A REGULAR FEATURE

Guess what everybody? An NFL player has been charged with a crime!!!! I didn't see this coming at all. I mean, professional athletes getting caught in comprimising positions? No way!!!

Now that I have gotten that out the way. On this week's episode of Law and Order:NFL, New Orleans Saints DE Charles Grant has been charged with involuntary manslaughter from an altercation in February. This is the same altercation in which Grant was stabbed in the neck, outside the club in his hometown of Blakely, Georgia.

(I went to college in Southwest Georgia (Albany State University) and I am familiar with the town. It is a very modest town to say the least)

He was charged in association with another gentleman who was initially charged in the double-murder of a pregnant young lady, and her baby.

Although 2 people lost their lives in the situation, this points out a bigger problem with athletes and keeping it real.

If im not mistaken, Grant is the only person in Blakely that rides around in a Rolls Royce Phantom.

Often times, in small rural cities like this, there are very common denominators. The income level tends to be lower, not much emphasis is put on education, and there is a high rate of "hustling" going on. In that region, 2 groups of African Americans drive fancy cars. Thats the athletes who made it, and the dope boys. There isnt a lot to do, and people get creative with the type of recreation they choose.

In an effort to "keep it real", a lot of athletes love to hang out back in their towns. You can not ever forget where you come from, but, this is a double edge sword because if you grow up without, and return with millions and millions of dollars, it develops a superiority complex that causes more problems than wanted. A lot of people in your town may feel like you think you are better than them, when in reality, you have been blessed with an opportunity to succeed and enjoy prosperity. The sad reality is, a lot of envy and jealous envelops that same community and that places a big target on your back. Which brings me to Grant and the predicament he finds himself in.

Grant just wanted to hang out with his boys from the crib, and stunt a little. The club that they went to was probably the size of a middle school cafeteria. The deep-seeded jealousy of one of the locals more than likely bubbled to the surface, which caused the altercation. Fight moves from the inside to the outside, shots fired, Grant gets stabbed. Now we have a double murder, and yet another NFL athlete who finds himself entangled in a nightmare.

Im not saying forget your roots, or that you are better than anyone else. But when there is so much at stake, you have to think twice about what you are doing, where you are going, and who you hang with. The authorities bag regular criminals all the time, but the chance they get to get somone of fame, it makes things more interesting.

The even sadder reality about this whole article is, I guarantee you between now and next week, there will be another player who will influence another episode of Law and Order: NFL
