Every team has played 8 games, so lets break down the 10 burning questions for the first half of the NFL Season.

1-Cirque De T.O. how would you say that is going?

Lets see, we had the Tour De T.O., hamstring injuries, broken hand, alleged suicide attempt, lots of TD’s, lots of dropped passes, a quarterback controversy, owner meddling, and a coach who looks like he is going to have a heart attack at any time.

In short, it is going about the way I thought it would. T.O. has done a decent job of not dropping that bombshell that usually gets him in serious trouble. On the field since Tony Romo has been inserted into the lineup he has played well, but he has had 2 crucial drops that played huge roles in the team being 4-4 as opposed to 6-2.

If you are going to do as much talking as T.O. does, you have to back it up on the field and he has been uneven in his play at best. The media attention has died down in recent weeks even though you could tell Joe Buck was simply delighted when he dropped that TD pass last week against the Redskins. If the Cowboys want to make a playoff push, they are going to need a little less talk and more concentration on the field.

2-What is going on with your boy Reggie Bush I thought he was the 2nd coming of Jesus?

There is this guy “Big Country” who posts a thread every week on a message board I frequent with Bush’s All-Purpose yards followed by the sentenced “I am not impressed.” One of the problems with the media is they like to anoint rookies before they have ever done anything in the league. Everyone should know by now that it doesn’t matter if you are drafted #1 or #999, being a success in the NFL is a crap shoot. That is why the rookie of the year candidate on the Saints is a 7th round WR out of Hofstra who most media mistakenly thought was a tight end.

With that being said it has only been 8 games into the season, and it is a bit early to label anyone from the 2006 draft a bust. Bush has struggled in his last couple of games, but I can point out games that all the top rookies have struggled in. I don’t think the Saints are 6-2 without him on the squad, but like any rookie he has things he needs to work on (stop dancing and hit the holes dawg). Granted, he has gotten more media attention, but give him some time. Let’s revisit this next year around this time.

3-What happen to the Steelers and more specifically Ben Rothlisberger?

It is not unusual for a Super Bowl team to hit the skids the year after. If you use simple logic it is easy to see why it can happen. To win a Super Bowl there are a lot of things that have to go your way. The Steelers were left for dead at 7-5 last year before rolling off 8 straight victories including 3 road playoff games in hostile environments. Were the Steelers a great team, no, but they got hot at the right time and that is all that matters. I think a lot of people were fooled into thinking they were great team, but they were closer to the 7-5 team than the team that went 8-0.

Am I the only one who notices that Small Ben exaggerates a lot? After he lost the AFC Championship game as a rookie he said he had broken toes, but then Cowher said he didn’t. After his motorcycle accident he told Jim Rome he was minutes from dying, but the Emergency staff on the scene said that wasn’t the case. He told Michele Tafoya before a Monday Night Football game he had a 104 fever when it turned out he had a 100.4 fever. After being KOed by the Atlanta Falcons defense he said that they were talking trash about his motorcycle accident, but failed to reveal who and the Falcons players denied it ever happen. I am starting to think this kid has a problem in his head.

4-What is Brett Favre going to do after the season?

If he was smart he would walk into the GM’s office and ask to be released so he can play with the Minnesota Vikings next year. People have this misconception that I dislike Favre, which is not the case, my beef has never been with Favre but the media god-like worship of Favre even when he’s throwing game crippling picks every week. He has played decent this year, and there doesn’t seem to be any slippage in arm strength or mobility, but there is no reason to stay with the Packers. Even Joe Montana and Jerry Rice left the 49ers, so if Favre still wants to play and all indications are that he does, he should try to go to a contender.

5-Now do you believe in the Madden curse?

I don’t believe in curses but if I was a football player that is the one cover I would avoid like the plague. Carebear Alexander has been the latest player hit by the jinx and he must have rubbed a little bit on Matt Hasselbeck. The crazy thing is that even with all that going on they are still in first place in the NFC West.

6-Are you ready to jump on the Colts bandwagon yet?

I am truly shocked at how many fans and media are actually getting hyped again about the Colts. It is like they are Charlie Brown and the Colts are Lucy. Every year around thanksgiving Charlie Brown thinks Lucy is going to let him kick that winning field goal and every year she pulls the ball right out from underneath him and he falls flat on his face. I will never ever be on the Colts bandwagon. My position will always be clear, call me when they when the Super Bowl. Until then they are the pretty girl who will let you take her out on a date, spend all your money and when you ask to come in for the evening says “she has to get up early, but she had a lovely time”.

7-If any player could be back in time and change their free agent signing who would it be?

It has to be Edgerrin James. Of course I just called out the Colts, but I would rather be sitting at 8-0 than playing for the Arizona Cardinals right now. I was watching their game 2 weeks ago and they did a close up of Edge on the bench. I swear he had that look like “What made me think I could change Star Jones into Beyonce” on his face. It was sad to watch, it was like after Dan Akroyd lost all his money in “Trading Places” and put on the Santa Suit and threatened to kill everyone. I believe if the Colts played the Cardinals we would have to have him on a T.O. suicide watch.

8-Are the Bears for real?

I am going to let Dennis Green tell you.

In all seriousness you can go a long way with a good defense, but the fact of the matter is their defense is not good enough to overcome a plethora of turnovers by their offensive. Rex Grossman doesn’t have to be Superman, but teams are going to try to bait him into mistakes and they could be the downfall of the Bears.

9-Michael Vick makes my head hurt

The Greatest of Michael Vick lies in his unpredictability which is also his weakness. One week he is Tony Rice, the next week he is Steve Young and the next week he is Andre Ware. You might as well get used to it because I don’t see it changing anytime soon and you can expect this roller coaster ride to continue through the 2nd half of the season.

10-What is up with Ocho Cinco and the Bengals?

The Bengals are basically the 2002 Colts. Back when Peyton was losing big regular season games as well as playoff games. The offense has all the parts, but I think that Carson Palmer is a year away from being the QB he was in ‘05. I applaud him for even playing at all this year. His knee injury happened much later than Daunte Culpepper’s and we might never see Culpepper play again. As far as Ocho he is learning that when you are the man defenses are going to treat you as such. Offensively though I think they will be fine. That is not the real problem.

Defensively is where they are going to have a problem. They can’t stop anyone when it matters and they are constantly putting the offense behind the 8 ball by allowing early scores. The reason they are 4-4 now is because their defense is made of Swiss cheese. Marvin Lewis is a defensive master, but the Bengals will never make that leap until more playmakers are added to the defensive side of the ball.
